Mission Vineyard Ranch is owned and operated by the Morris Family.

The ranch was purchased in 1968 by our grandparents, John and Elinor Baumgartner, who lived and ranched in and around San Benito County their whole married life. John was a rancher who spent his childhood between San Francisco and his family ranch in Southern California, Rancho Santa Margarita y las Flores. Elinor was a San Franciscan with a musical ear and an eye for fashion and interiors. What we know today as Mission Vineyard Ranch was their retirement home. Between the two of them, they transformed it into a sophisticated yet welcoming spot where family and friends could gather.

In 1998, John and Elinor’s daughter, Anne, and her husband Rich, retired to Mission Vineyard Ranch themselves. They transformed the gardens to be more drought-friendly and injected a casual element into the house with a family room warmed by a clean-burning stone fireplace. They also had the foresight to bring their children, their children’s spouses, and eventually their grandchildren, to the ranch to engage in mediated sessions focused on preserving the ranch as a family gathering spot.

Today, Anne and Rich’s large extended family come together multiple times a year to celebrate birthdays and holidays, relax, play and attend the local Rodeo that John Baumgartner helped get started back in 1929. A member of the third generation raises grassfed cattle on the property, and members of the fourth generation can be found either horseback riding in the Western tradition John loved so much, or harvesting ranch-grown olives in a nod to the delicious meals that were at the center of every party Elinor threw.

We are delighted to share this special place of ours with you.
